Bohdan SYNCHAK, a graduate student of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSC of Sumy State University, defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 06 “Journalism” in the specialty 061 “Journalism”. The work was carried out under the supervision of Doctor of Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Sadivnychіy. The topic is “Deontology of journalistic activity: challenges, dilemmas, trends”.

The thesis studied, theoretically summarized and solved the complex problem of journalistic duty as an integral part of professional ethics, substantiating the elements of its deontological component. Based on the identification of current industry problems, modern deontological challenges, dilemmas and trends facing Ukrainian journalism are singled out.

– These include, in particular, verification of facts, correction of false information, anthropocentrism in journalistic activity, oligarchization and offshorization of the media market, freedom of choice and actions in the sphere of Ukrainian mass media, etc., – Bohdan Sinchak noted after the defense. 

The specialized academic council was headed by Doctor of Social Communications, Associate Professor Yaroslav Yanenko. The reviewers were associate professor Tetyana Kovalоva (department of journalism and philology) and professor Andriy Lebid (department of psychology, political science and socio-cultural technologies). Candidates for the dissertation were Victoria Shevchenko (doctor of social communications) and Nataliya Fedotova (candidate of philological sciences).

Bohdan Sinchak became the sixth recipient of the educational degree of Doctor of Philosophy, who in the current academic year defended his dissertation at the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSC of Sumy State University.
