The scientific achievements of the Department of journalism and philology of the FPSC Faculty of Sumy State University were replenished with the monograph of Anna CHERNYSH “Stepan Protsyuk’s prose and the development of psychoanalytic discourse in Ukrainian literature” (Sumy, publishing house of Sumy State University) at the end of 2023.

The author proved the effectiveness of the application of the psychoanalytic method in philological disciplines, using psychoanalytic tools. The scientific book clarified the theoretical and methodological interaction between literary studies and psychoanalysis based on the material of the psychoanalytical prose of a modern Ukrainian writer Stepan Protsyuk. The concepts of trauma, identity, memory, post-memory, fear, dreams as defining categories in literary studies and psychoanalysis have become the focus of the researcher’s scientific interests. The monograph updated important issues of postcolonial discourse in Ukrainian literature.

Тhe author in the monograph discovered the light and the dark sides of a person existence, which allows us for better understanding of Stepan Protsyuk’s prose... and the essence of each of us. The book multifacetedly revealed the mutual influences between fiction and psychoanalysis, outlined promising aspects in implementation of further scientific interdisciplinary studies. Anna Chernysh’s monograph “Stepan Protsyuk’s prose and the development of psychoanalytic discourse in Ukrainian literature” may be useful for philologists, journalists, sociologists, philosophers in understanding integration processes between psychoanalysis and other humanitarian disciplines.
