Volodymyr SADIVNYCHYI, Head of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FPSC Sumy State University, took part in the panel discussion “Artificial Intelligence, VR, AR in Higher Journalism Education: Opportunities and Risks”, which took place during the international conference “Journalism Education and Innovation. What opportunities exist?”. The Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communications organized the event within the project “Academy of Journalism Teachers” in partnership with Deutsche Welle Akademie.

During the panel discussion, Maarit Jaakola, associate professor of the Department of Journalism, Media and Communications at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), Ph.D. in Mass Communications, lecturer at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Switzerland) Anastasia Hrynko, senior lecturer at the Mohyla School of Journalism and editor, shared their thoughts and visions of the problem. StopFake.org Olena Churanova, representative of Sumy State University Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, UX designer, candidate of sciences in social communications Pavlo Saliga, head of New Cave Media studio, which produces VR projects, Serhiy Polezhaka.

In particular, the participants of the discussion noted:

- In my opinion, checking the data after AI is so time and effort-consuming that it is easier to do the task manually from the beginning. But as a publisher, I see AI as a field for experiments (Pavlo Saliga).

- We, journalists and journalism teachers, should not follow established principles regarding AI, but anticipate them, experiment, do something new. At the same time, we should not lose the definition of journalism: it is not communications, marketing and propaganda (Maarit Jaakola).

- AI tools should be taught in the first year so that later in the fourth year students do not regret not knowing how to handle them correctly and use them. But it is important not to lose the real intelligence of our journalists behind various games and technologies (Volodymyr Sadivnychyi).

Participation in such events shows both the authority of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of IFSK Sumy State University and allows you to enrich yourself with modern developments in the media industry. This is how we pave the way where #media_space_leads_to_the_universe.
