A team of students from the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSС of Sumy State University won the 1st place at the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad “Social Engineering: Ways and Mechanisms of Protection”.

The event took place on April 28 at the Kharkiv Regional University of Radio Electronics. The co-organizer of the Olympiad was the Institute of Special Communication and Information Protection of the National Technological University of Ukraine “Ihor Sikorskyi Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”. Eight teams from Sumy, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Mariupol and Kyiv took part in the competition.

Second-year students Zakhar Yuvko and Anna Oropai, fourth-year student Liana Okhrymenko are part of our team with the telling name “#best_faculty_of_the_galaxy ”.

Participants competed in two sections, in groups of four teams. According to the results of scoring, the students of Sumy State University took first place in their section.

The chairman of the jury of the section, the deputy chairman of the Academic Council, the dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication of Arkadiy Snigurov noted the high level of training of the Sumy team, noted that the analysis of texts performed by the Sumy team was much deeper than that of the competitors, and the presentation was well made. He also emphasized that the whole team took part in the discussion, unlike the opponents.

– Very good experience! Interesting questions were considered, the range of topics covered was quite wide. The awareness of the students in the rather difficult issues under consideration is impressive, which contributed to the active discussion. There is a sense of pride that our team had the opportunity to represent our university and won first place, – said Liana Okhrymenko, the captain of the “#best_faculty_of_the_galaxy” team.

“I am very glad that our students were able to get a well-deserved victory. But, to be honest, I had no doubt that the result would be just like that. I saw with what tenacity and thoroughness our young media persons approached the training - real journalists! We dissected each proposed text ‘into molecules’, looked through a lot of literature, many of which are in English, carefully studied the answers of opponents and prepared questions for discussion. And then they showed themselves during the performances. I’m really proud of them!”, – said Maryna Sadivnycha, head of the team, assistant of the Department of Journalism and Philology.

Congratulations to our winners! We wish to continue confidently walking the paths of the information space and remember that #media_space_leads_to_the_universe!
