Iryna Zhilenko, Tetyana Kovalyova, and Alla Fedorina, associate professors of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of FPCS SSU, took part in online seminars on media literacy, the series of which started on January 26 and will last during February.

The participants of the first seminar talked with the speaker Marina Singaivska, Deputy General Director of UNIA “Ukrinform”, about how to find and check sources of information. During the training, the risks of fakes during the information war in Ukraine were outlined. Participants pointed out the importance of verifying facts from several sources, the correctness of citations and the avoidance of manipulative judgments in media texts, and so on. They also talked about the threats of broadcasting inaccurate information in the media space.

Together with Mykhailo Koltsov, a World Bank data analyst and head of the YouControl training department, they joined the discussion on “How to Detect and Debunk a Defeak” at the second seminar, which took place on February 2. During the monitoring of the information space on the detection of dipfeys, attention was focused on the basic principles of their creation and the ability to see the signs by which they can be detected.

Online seminars organized by the Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communication together with IREX in Ukraine continue. Teachers of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of FPCS SSU, actively participating in them, deepen theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Everyone understands the simple truth: #mediaspace_leads_to_the_universe
