This was the basic idea of the meeting of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSС of Sumy State University, at which the results of 2022 were discussed and plans for 2023 were determined.

The head of the department, Volodymyr Sadivnychy, revealed the main indicators of what was done in the report.

– The first and most important thing, – noted the speaker, -– I consider the successful completion of the 2021/2022 academic year. And for this, I want to thank all teachers, employees, and all students. In spite of everything, we completed the academic year with dignity, we organized worthy defenses of bachelor's theses, we successfully conducted admission to the first year. Thanks!

Therefore, the work of the educational unit in the conditions of war became the core of the conversation. They mentioned the inclusion of the team in the general informational resistance to the enemy, the holding of media literacy lessons for schoolchildren of the region, the organization of the festival “Media space leads to the universe”, the photo exhibition “War through a student lens”, the successful completion of the European Union ERASMUS+ “DESTIN” grant program, participation in the international scientific project, conducting the first defenses of the holders of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty 061 Journalism, etc.

At the same time, during the meeting of the department, the most attention was paid to the basic factors of activity: the organization of the educational process and scientific work.

In particular, new educational and professional training programs for bachelors in journalism, advertising and public relations, and master's degrees have been prepared for introduction. Now we have a master's program “Journalism” with two certificate programs: “Cyber Journalism” and “Visual Communications in Advertising and PR”. Work with stakeholders has also changed: during the academic year, more than twenty classes were held with the participation of leading industry specialists and media experts. The project “Sumy Journalism in Persons”, which is implemented jointly with the Sumy Press Club, has proven itself positively as a basis for practical training.

Cooperation with the Johann Gutenberg University of Mainz has been established. Thanks to this, 25 students and seven post-graduate students worked with foreign teachers, such as Katya Schup and Jessica Kunert, and foreign students and prepared joint journalistic works.

– It is precisely for this purpose – the comprehensive, thorough training of future journalists, advertisers and PR specialists – that we need to work – stated Volodymyr Sadivnychiy.

In the discussion, the issue of scientific work at the department was most actively debated: attracting students, preparing for the conference, publishing in highly rated publications, submitting grant applications, etc.

 At the meeting of the department, the dean of the FРSС of Sumy State University, Olena Sushkova, as well as deputies Svitlana Baranova, Alla Krasulya, Maryna Nabok spoke.

Among the approved plans for the year 2023 of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of FРSС of Sumy State University is the introduction of teaching of disciplines in English; continuation of the practice of defenses of dissertation studies of doctors of philosophy in the specialty 061 Journalism; introduction of educational facilities using VR; wider involvement of industry representatives in teaching; publications with scientific foreign partners; intensification of the work of graduate students regarding participation in scientific projects; support of already active and introduction of new media projects, etc. And of course – VICTORY!
