The second stage of the All-Ukrainian competition-defense of research works of students-members of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has ended. Representatives of the Department of Journalism and Philology  FPSC  SSU took an active part in it.

Thus, in the journalism section, associate professors Tetyana Kovalyova and Inna Sypchenko collaborated with students and evaluated their work. According to their characteristics, this year the students of the Sumy Territorial Branch of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (JAS)  presented thorough scientific works at the competition.

Participants discussed current topics, demonstrated the applied nature of the research. They talked about the history of local journalism, analyzed the specifics, problem-thematic and genre content of popular science media, considered literary memes as a source of information, delved into modern ways of information, including storytelling.

During the speech at the conference, young journalists demonstrated the ability not only to constructively and clearly build their own report, but also to lead an active scientific discussion, formulate questions, critically analyze the research problems.

In the section of folklore and literary creativity (the jury consisted of associate professor Valentina Vladimirova and member of the NSPU Vasyl Chubur) considered 11 works: 6 - folklore, and 5 poetry and prose collections.

– Both the poster defense of the competition works and the general conference made a great impression. Participants sang folk songs that are more than a century old, demonstrated original clothes traditionally worn by their ancestors in very, very distant times, recited poems from collections of their own poetry, demonstrated not only interesting and thorough knowledge, but also remarkable artistic abilities, – summed up Vasуl Chubur.

In the “Foreign Literature” section students explored current and always modern topics – love and loneliness, life and death, destructive passions, a fantastic future and the eternal thirst for knowledge. Young scholars turned to the study of works of Japanese, American, Scandinavian, Polish, Belarusian, Czech, Armenian and Ukrainian literature.

In particular, Victoria Dash, a pupil at the Lebedyn Secondary School No. 3, analyzed novels “Loneliness on the Net” by Janusz Wisniewski and novels “The Village is Not People” by Luko Dashvar. Sharing her impressions of the work done and participation in the scientific conference, the girl said:

– The concept in J. Vyshnevsky’s novel sounds like “human loneliness in the age of technology”, while in Luko Dashvar it is “loneliness of a part of society among society”. And if the author of the novel “Loneliness on the Net” shows a way to fight – information technology, the Ukrainian writer leaves this question open. However, both authors point out that the problem of loneliness in the 21st century is becoming increasingly important to society.

Iryna Zhilenko, an associate professor of our department, worked in the jury of the Foreign Literature section. Summing up, she stressed:
– Young researchers have coped well with comparative intelligence, analysis of genre and style paradigm, image system, plot transformation and features of mythopoetics. Our students can also use such issues of literary science as “middle literature”, “anti-utopia”, “novel of voices”, “ego-novel”, “discourse”, “concept”. Brave novice scholars have studied both the mythology and work of Shakespeare and the works of the twentieth century. and modern literature (Thomas Eliot, Dazai Osama, Ray Bradbury, Janusz Wisniewski, Ransom Riggs, Svetlana Aleksievich, Mariam Petrosyan). Students are familiar with different research methods, which gives the opportunity to talk about the high results of their research.

Describing the annual participation of the Department of Journalism and Philology FPSC SSU in the competition-defense of works and in the training sessions of the Academy of Sciences, the head Volodymyr Sadivnychy stated:

–  All teachers of the department are well aware that the participation of students in the JAS helps them to develop critical thinking, analyze and organize information, perceive events from the standpoint of logic and see more clearly the cause and effect relationships and more. And, of course, the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is a step towards scientific heights. Therefore, we guarantee and support young people on this path.
