2nd year journalism students met with Yulia Dunayevska, a TV presenter of the “Children’s Search Service” program and a graduate of the Department of Journalism and Philology FPSC SSU. The event was held by video conference as part of a practical lesson in the discipline of “Media Engineering and Media Technology”.

During the meeting, the TV presenter acquainted the students with the specifics of the program “Children’s Search Service” from the public organization “Magnolia”, told about the principles of work and more. She also gave a lecture on journalistic ethics, focusing, in particular, on the legal basis of children’s coverage in the media, demonstrated specific examples of violations of journalistic ethics and emphasized the importance of editorial values.

– It was very important to follow only the standards, it is important to understand the ethical principles of covering some issues. You must write so as not to harm the child's reputation in any way. “Often the media just want to make a sensation out of the news, but real journalism should help people, not turn their stories into a 'bait' to increase views”, – Yulia shared her impressions.

She also spoke about her experience working on the Ukrainer project (as an interviewer and producer), noting that a journalist has to work under any circumstances, overcoming his own fears in order to prepare professional material. Finally, she shared useful tips, noting that it is desirable to start working on the specialty as early as possible, because it will help to get acquainted, which will be useful throughout your professional life.

The meeting with the stakeholder made a great impression on the students of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of FPSC SSU. First of all, professional orientation and advice on future media activities and finding a way in which #mediaspace_leads_to_the_universe.

– The guest provided a lot of interesting information on the topic of children and supported them with practical examples, which I find very useful. I will definitely take up arms, – commented student Vadym Dzekunov.

Student Alina Shevchenko noted:

– Of course, such events should be held, because there are many difficult topics, and we need to be able to work with them. The ethical side is especially important, because the media is not a place to chase sensation, especially when it comes to children. The lecture was informative and useful for everyone. Thank you Julia for your time and interesting information.
