The scientific seminar within the framework of the development of a complex research topic “Modern mass communication space: history, realities, prospects” was held at the Department of Journalism and Philology, Faculty of FPSC SSU.

Teachers and graduate students discussed the history of the Ukrainian media space, focusing on leading figures in emigration literature and journalism of the interwar period. The role of speakers was performed by Doctor of Philology Iryna Zhilenko and PhD in Philology Olena Ishchenko.

Thus, Iryna Zhilenko spoke about the activities of Ukrainian writers who continued to fight for the Ukrainian idea even in incredibly difficult conditions of “psychological baselessness” – emigration. In particular, from the original point of view, the seminar participants looked at the journalistic works of Simon Petliura, Dmitry Dontsov, Nikita Shapoval, prophetic legends of our compatriot Ivan Mirny, satire Ostap Gritsay, existential stories of Oles Babiі, feuilletons – “reviews of the day”. Each of these writers-publicists has left a unique legacy that should be studied in order to finally form a general picture of the history of the Ukrainian media space.

Olena Ishchenko dedicated her speech to journalistic markers in the prose of our contemporary author Myroslav Dochynets. She emphasized that the creative work of the writer is an original phenomenon in the Ukrainian literary process of the late 20th – early 21st century, marked by a documentary basis, genre paradigm (all works are mostly portraits and problem essays, memoirs, diaries, etc.), the desire to influence the consciousness of the recipient by emphasizing the inalienable and relevant issues. It was journalistic activity that became a powerful source of inspiration and formed the individual manner of the author: conciseness, aphorism, increased attention to artistic detail, expressiveness, which in the work have the effect of authenticity of the portrayed.

The participants were once again convinced of the need to discover new names of the Ukrainian media space, to study the work of compatriots and our contemporaries, in which the principle of serving the truth occupies a leading place, in which #mediaspace_leads_to_the_universe.
