A team of students from the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSС of Sumy State University won second place in the 3rd All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad «Social Engineering: Ways and Mechanisms of Protection».

The event took place on May 3 at the State University of Intellectual Technologies and Communications (Odesa). Six teams from Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv and Kropyvnytskyi took part in intellectual competitions.

The team «#best_faculty_of_the_galaxy» included third-year students Zakhar YUVKO and Anna OROPAY, as well as first-year student Victoria VAKINA, team leader – assistant professor of the Department of Journalism and Philology, Marina SADIVNYCHA.

Participants competed in the ability to check information, work with sources, look for untruths in opponents’ texts and prove their own opinion. In a fierce fight, the media students of Sumy State University demonstrated not only thorough preparation, but also a high level of communication culture, endurance and respect for the opponent.

– I am taking part in this Olympiad for the second time. Like last time, I enjoyed exchanging ideas with opponents. In some places, the pressure from the participants was very strong, but above all, we planned to enjoy the participation and present our institution in a worthy way, which, I hope, we succeeded, – Zakhar YUVKO shared his impressions.

– I gained an interesting experience, because you could take part in debates, practice your ability to check information for truthfulness and be able to prove the truth. These skills are now more useful than ever. Thank God for good results and inner peace! Thanks to the entire team for a pleasant atmosphere in communication and fruitful work!, – Anna OROPAY noted.

For freshman Victoria Vakina, participation in the Olympics was her debut. And although the girl got a rather difficult topic – cyber security, she was able to understand the issue qualitatively and give a decent speech.

– The Olympics took place in a rather unusual format for me. It was very interesting to study and determine the elements of truth and falsehood in the opponent's text, which will definitely improve my skills as a future journalist. Despite some shortcomings, in general, the Olympiad made a positive impression, because any experience is also an experience, – commented Victoria VAKINA.
