Freshmen of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SSU attended the press conference of the Rector of the University Vasyl Karpusha and the Head of the Academic Council Anatolii Vasyliev. The topic of the meeting – positions in the updated ranking of the World University Rankings from the international agency in the field of higher education Times Higher Education (THE).
During the press conference, the indicators influencing the position of the institution in the leading international rankings and its importance in shaping the image of the university were discussed.
For the students, future mass-media workers, press conference has become the first professional event where they could observe the work of the experienced colleagues in real conditions, feel like real journalists and get acquainted with the achievements of the university. Although, the topic seemed a bit difficult for beginners, the event helped to draw some conclusions.
First of all, the attitude of the university leaders towards the student was pleasantly surprising. Lack of experience and young age do not make it the smallest unit of SSU.
The desire to develop and improve – that’s what unites all the members of the university team.
Secondly, a clearly defined development plan exists not only in the documents, but is also actively implemented in life. Proof of that is the result of the World University Rankings, in which SSU has taken the first place among Ukrainian Higher Educational Institutions and far not the last – among foreign ones. Despite the fact that the institution is positioned as a fairly young university.
Finally, the international cooperation. Due to the university’s entry into international rankings, opportunities with foreign partners are increasing. This is reflected both in the academic mobility of students and in the recognition of the university’s diploma far beyond Ukraine.
– I am convinced that a smart applicant definitely pays attention to the positions of the university in the rankings, - noted during the press conference Vasyl Karpusha, the Rector of SSU.
Yesterday’s applicants, and today’s freshmen journalists, will agree with that, too. But the real understanding of the opportunities and prospects that SSU opens for them comes not from looking at the rankings, but from the atmosphere in the classrooms, communication with lecturers and hard work. And, of course, from the first professional tasks at the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SSU.
