Students, graduate students, teachers of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSC of Sumy State University took part in the work of the round table “Information Policy and Border Security: Effectiveness and Challenges". The event brought together representatives of the media community, the authorities and the public of the Sumy region. The staff of the department became not only an active participant, but also a co-organizer together with the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), its Sumy regional branch.

Welcoming those present, Vasyl Karpusha, rector of Sumy State University, emphasized that the topic of the round table is extremely relevant for the university:

– Sumy State University is an educational and scientific outpost in Sumy region. We have a specialty “Journalism”, and I would like the thoughts, ideas, technologies voiced today to become material for the training of our students.

Associate professor of the department of journalism and philology of Sumy State University, honored journalist of Ukraine Alla Fedorуna, representative of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting in Sumy region, head of the expert council of employers of specialty 061 Journalism of Sumy State University Larуsa Yakubenko gave panel reports at the round table.

The event was moderated by Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, head of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSC of Sumy State University, head of the Sumy Regional Organization of the NUJU. He presented honorary diplomas of the secretariat of NUJU to newspapermen, television presenters, and media managers. Tetyana Kovaleva and Alla Fedorina, the head of the expert council of employers Larуsa Yakubenko, and graduate Nataliya Goncharova are among the awardees and assistant professors of our department.

Addressing the mass media of the region, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Oleksandr Kachura, who was present at the event, emphasized:

– Information is what helps any army and any nation win. Our journalists are actually heroic, even during the period of occupation, newspapers were published in the border areas, telling local residents that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are protecting our territory and repelling the enemy. This confirms that the information front is as important as the military front. Journalism is not even a job, it is a service and a calling in life. It is a great honor to be here with you today.

Oleksandr Kachura presented thanks from himself personally, as a people’s deputy, from the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and the Charter of the Verkhovna Rada. Oleksandr Motsniy (Krasnopillya), Nataliya Shutko (Lypova Dolyna), Tetyana Kaushan (Putyvl) were awarded certificates for services to the Ukrainian people.

– The participation of students and teachers in such events allows you to experience the profession by taste and touch, – summarized Volodymyr Sadivnychiy. – Allows you to expand your network of contacts, which will help on the way that #media_space_leads_to_the_universe.
