Teachers of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of FPSC SSU Alla Fedorina and Volodymyr Sadivnychy took part in the training for editors of newspapers of Sumy region “Through writing project applications to make dreams come true”.

The training was conducted in Sumy by the Association of Professional Journalists and Advertisers of Zhytomyr Region. Together with the NGO “Sumy Press Club” (Sumy), the NGO “Media Center “My City” (Chernihiv) and the NGO “Institute of Creative Innovations” (Zhytomyr), with the financial support of the Media Development Fund of the US Embassy in Ukraine, the Association is implementing the project “Media of New Communities”.

This event was used by the representatives of the department as a platform for discussion with potential employers of practical training of student journalists.

In particular, Volodymyr Sadivnychy made a proposal for project activities. After all, isn’t the idea of guiding every student of the department through work in the “small media” to understand the essence of work “in the field”? In general, the real practice of future journalists is of interest to both the department (place of theoretical training and promotion of practical skills) and local media (where there is a lack of hands to create sufficient content) and students, who need experience now.

Sharing the experience of working with a student intern, the editors mentioned both positive examples (let’s keep quiet about them) and commented: “The impression that students are just afraid of people, do not know how to talk to them”; “It turns out to be the most difficult when you suggest a topic and the student does not know where to find sources for it and go to talk to them”; “It happened that a student who was supposed to do an internship did not show up at all, but my mother came and asked for a description with a stamp”.

In addition to variations in the organization of practice, representatives of the department discussed with the editors the form of their participation in conducting classes in the classrooms of the university.

The first task of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of FPSC SSU today – to bring the student as close as possible to work in the modern media industry. And through the joint efforts of tutors and stakeholders, it is being implemented.
