For the first time, Sumy State University held a defense of a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 06 "Journalism" in the specialty 061 "Journalism".

The thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy was defended by Nataliya Rudenko, a graduate of the postgraduate course of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of IFPSC of Sumy State University, a teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages. The topic of the dissertation is "Suggestion as a means of forming public opinion in modern English-language Internet publications: information and communication strategies and methods of their implementation." Scientific supervisors: doctor of philological sciences, professor Olena Tkachenko and doctor of historical sciences, professor Serhiy Degtyarev.

The specialized academic council of Sumy State University with the right to accept for consideration and conduct a one-time defense of the dissertation was formed in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine dated July 7, 2022. The council was headed by Volodymyr Sadivnychiy, Doctor of Sciences in Social Communications, Head of the Department of Journalism and Philology. Its members included associate professor Inna Havrylyuk (Sumy), professors Nataliya Poplavska (Ternopil), Yuriy Bidzilya (Uzhhorod), Maria Butyrina (Dnipro).

The meeting of the council, which took place in a mixed format, was lively in discussion: many comments, wishes, and warnings were expressed. But even more - positive evaluations: about relevance, scientific novelty, wide source base, methodology, obtained results, practical significance.

So the result turned out to be natural: based on the results of the open voting, the specialized academic council of Sumy State University awarded Natalia Rudenko the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 061 "Journalism" with the specialty 061 "Journalism".

Commenting on the event, Volodymyr Sadivnychiy, Head of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of IFPSC of Sumy State University, noted:

– We are making history: the successful defense of the thesis of Natalia Rudenko, a graduate of our graduate school, has just been completed. This is the first thesis defense in journalism at Sumy State University. And this means that from now on we have all three levels of training of journalist specialists: bachelor's, master's, doctor of philosophy. I congratulate the dissertation student, I congratulate the staff of the department!
