The lecturers of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the FРSC of Sumy State University (Tetyana Kovalova, Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, Inna Sypchenko, Olena Sushkova) took part in the work of the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Ukrainian Journalism in the Global Information and Communication Context: Achievements and Prospects”, which took place on 24-25 November in Kyiv. The event was organized by the Department of History of Journalism of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko KNU, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Therefore, the conference was dedicated to congratulating the birthday department.

No institution in the world can fully function without advertising its products or services. It is impossible to imagine any state structure, large company or political party without established mutually beneficial public relations since without that kind of relations any economic, political or public structure is doomed to be ineffective. An expert in the field of advertising and public relations is intended to ensure harmonious communication in accordance with the objectives at the levels of either a small enterprise or the entire state. His tasks are to think over the concept of an advertising product, to conduct an effective advertising and PR-action, to form a positive image of a company or a person, to establish communication with the public, to represent the interests of the organization at the national or international levels.

A specialist in the field of advertising and public relations is intended to ensure harmonious communication in accordance with the objectives at both small enterprise and entire state levels. His task is to think over the concept of an advertising product, to conduct an effective advertising and PR-action, to form a positive image of a company or a person, to establish communication with the public, to represent the interests of the organization at the national or international levels.

What subjects will I study?

Students will receive a thorough training on communication technologies, theory of mass communication and information, photo ads, practice of advertising and PR-activities, organization of advertising and PR campaigns, television and radio advertising, fundamentals of visual communication and graphic design, copywriting in advertising and PR, modern technologies of 3D graphics and animation, advertising production, expo-business, creative strategies in advertising and PR, startups in advertising and PR, modern methods of graphic design.

What knowledge and skills will I get?

The graduate will possess all the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with media planning, project management, branding, computer design, copywriting; to create an advertising product; to conduct marketing research; to organize advertising and PR campaigns; to form and maintain the image and reputation of a company or an individual; to provide information and computer support of advertising and public relations; to create websites for firms and support the activity of Internet organizations; to protect the organization interests in the mass media sphere, at the international level in particular.

Where will I be able to work?

Graduates of specialty "Advertising and public relations" will be able to work in advertising and PR agencies, information and analytical centers, printed and electronic media, publishing and printing houses, design studios, PR departments of any public and profit-making institutions, press-services of enterprises, political parties, public organizations. They can become advertisers, advertising managers, press secretaries of public, political, profit-making or state institutions, PR specialists, speech-writers, etc. They can also work as art directors (project managers in show business, publishing, cinema, design, entertainment industry, etc.), advertising designers, copywriters (specialists in advertising copy writing), media buyers (specialists who buy airtime on radio and television, advertising space in printed and electronic media), media planners (specialists in development of media strategy for brands).
